Kayla Steward Kayla, 18, has been involved in the band program for 8 years. Kayla plays the Clarinet; however, she enjoys the sound of the Quads. Kayla's most memorable moment was her first football game as the 2008-2009 Co-Field Commander. She enjoyed showing the community what the band has accomplished. Kayla faced the challenges of transitioning from a band member to being a field commander and fellow band members not coming to practice ready to work, but worked hard to fix these challenges. Kayla's only regret is not being serious about band all of the time and wishes there would have been more time to work on creating new shows. Kayla leaves to the underclassmen, " Know that there is a time to work and a time to play." After high school Kayla plans to attend college and major in Medical Assistance.
Cole Adams Cole, 18, has been involved in the band program for 8 years. Cole is apart of the Percussion section and plays the Quads during marching season. Cole also enjoys playing the Guitar. Cole's most memorable moment in band was doing "The Funky" off the field after halftime and the crowd erupted. Cole enjoys perfoming under the "Friday Night Lights." Cole's biggest challenge was learning to read bell music and not taking band serious at times. He wishes that the band could've played "My Girl" this season in place of another song. Cole leaves to the underclassmen to " Get some cool shades like me." After high school, Cole plans to sell fruit in Ecuador. (Cole you're one of a kind) Kristin Allen Kristin, 18, has been involved in the band program for 8 years. Kristin plays the Tuba and enjoys the rumble of the Drums. Kristin's most memorable moment was when the drum line dumped water on Mrs. Schwall, and the bus rides to the away games. Kristin regrets nothing because she has learned so much and only was faced with the challenge of having to remember the music. Even though Kristin did not enjoy running around the field, she would not change a thing and still has time to tell the underclassmen "Not to get big headed." After high school, Kristin plans to go to college and major in Digital Arts. Asia Houston Asia, 18, has been involved with the band program for 8 years and enjoys playing the Clarinet. Asia's most memorable moment was doing "The Funky" for the first time and the crowd going wild, she also enjoys perfoming in front of the large crowds under the stadium lights. Asia wouldn't change anything and doesn't have any regrets about band. Her biggest challenge was having to learn music for Solo and Ensemble contest. To the underclassmen Asia says "Never give up, people will always want you to fail so you have to prove them wrong." After high school, Asia plans to school and major in Dentistry. Cherrelle Johnson Cherrelle has been involved with the band program for 7 years. Cherrelle enjoys playing the clarinet and is a member of the Flag Corps. Cherrrelle's most memorable moment was her freshmen year when the band marched to the home field because it made her feel happy that she was doing something that she really wanted to do. she enjoys going on the football field and showing the fans in the stands how good the band really is. "It is one of the best feelings in the world to me." ~Cherrelle Johnson Cherrelle has no regrets about being in the band, and wouldn't change a thing, however, she faced the big challenge of learning to sight read and didn't enjoy the weather at band camp. To the underclassmen Cherrelle says " Always have a positive outlook on theings, and never sell yourself short." After high school, Cherrelle plans to go to college and join the band program there. Kelsey Paramore Kelsey,18, has been involved with the band program for 8 years. Kelsey plays the flute, oboe, piccolo, and enjoys the piano. Kelsey's most memorable moments was the time Autumn jumped her before pregame. She enjoys hanging out with all of her marching band friends and regrets nothing about being in the band program. Kelsey's biggest challenge was learning to play a second instrument and getting up early for band camp. Kelsey leaves to the underclassmen " Pay attention, it makes thing go much faster." After high school, Kelsey plans to go to college and double major. Kristina Rainey Kristina has been involved with the band program for 4 years. Kristina plays the snare drum and the flute, but she prefers the snare drum. Kristina's most memorable moment was marching in the Canton Hall of Fame Parade. "It was so newat to watch our band on national television the next day. Seeing us march down the road with so many people cheering for us was a great feeling."~Kristina Rainey Kristina enjoys performing in the half time shows and loved to walk onto the field hearing the fans cheer for you. Kristina's only regret is that she wishes that she would've started playing the drums her freshman year,because the drumline is a lot of fun. Her biggest challenge was learning to march and play at the same time while staying on the same foot. Some advice that Kristina leaves to the underclassmen is " To work hard and try your very best. Always support each other and keep a positive attitude during practice, because what you practice impacts how well you perform." After high school, Kristina plans to attend college and major in Pre-Med or Nursing. Rachel Shoemake Rachel, 18, has been involved with the band program for 7 years. Rachel plays the trumpet, however she enjoys the cello. Rachel's most memorable moment was discovering that she was allergic to her trumpet, and she enjoyed creating and performing senior show. Rachel doesn't regret anything about the band ,but didn't enjoy dealing with the wet and cold weather. Rachel's biggest challenge was beginning marching band in 9th grade.To the underclassmen, Rachel leaves you with this, " Take advice from the people that have already been through what you're going through." After high school, Rachel plans to attend college, have a great time, and eventually become and Audiologist or a Biomedical Engineer. Monica Taylor Monica, 18, has been involved with the band program for 8 years. Monica's favorite part of marching band was the thrill of performing for the audience. Her biggest challenge of band was playing higher notes. Monica's advice to the underclassmen is to not give up, "senior year makes it all worth it." After High school, Monica plans to major in Psychology at the Ohio Christian University. Che'lea Watkins Che'lea,18, has been involved with the band program for 2 years. Che'lea is a member of the Tyger Flag Corp. Her most memorable experience was marching in the Canton Hall of Fame Parade and learning "The Funky." Che'lea also enjoyed the games and parades and getting to dance with all her friends. Che'lea leaves all the underclassmen with "Try your hardest and don't let anybody bring you down." After high school Che'lea plans to attend college and obtain her master's. Personal note: " I just want to say that I had so much fun with the band over these past two years." | Janet Ankomah Janet, 18, has been involved in the band program for 7 years. Janet plays the Clarinet and the Whistle; however, she enjoys the Cello. Janet is also the 2008-2009 Co-Field Commander of Mansfield Senior High School. Janet's most memorable moment was being in Honors Band her sophomore year. She had a lot of fun with her fellow band members felt that it was amazing to meet new people. Janet enjoys being with her close friends in band and just being around everyone. Janet's biggest challenge that she faced was adjusting to the new direction of the band. Janet only regrets being negative her junior year and she would like to have changed her Whistle because half the time it doesn't work! To the underclassmen Janet says, "There will be a lot of changes, but it'll be easier to just go with the flow." After high school Janet plans on attending Bowling Green State University to study Music Education and Biology. Kiara Allen Kiara, 18, has been involved in the band program for 3 years. Kiara is a member of the Flag Corps. Kiara's most memorable moment was her 10th grade year when a fellow Flag Corps. member fell down the bleachers during the game. Kiara's biggest challenge was teaching members of the flag ling to dance, running around the field; however, she has zero regrets about her experience in band. Kiara leaves to the underclassmen, " To not make a big deal out of little things, because there are bigger and more important things to worry about." After high school, Kiara plans to attend college and become a Registered Nurse (RN). ~"To Maci and Chalonte, I am going to miss you girls very much and I know you're going to do great without me." ~ Kiara Allen Andrea Arata Andrea, 18, has been involved in the band program for 8 years. Andrea plays the Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, and the Snare Drum. Andrea enjoys the playing the snare drum and being on the drum line. Andrea's most memorable moment was getting the chance to be on the drumline, all of the good memories, playing at the football games and seeing all of their hardwork pay off. Andrea's biggest challenge was sticking with the band through those frustrated times; however, Andrea regrets nothing, but only wishes to have started to do "flashier" stuff like "The Funky" earlier. To the underclassmen Andrea says " Stick with band make the best of it, make memories and build friendships." After high school, Andrea plans to attend college and medical school to become a doctor. Jarvis Hudson-Bey Jarvis has been involved with the band program for 8 years. Javis is a member of the percussion section and plays the quads during marching season and enjoys playing the snare drum. Javis's most memorable moment was doing "The Funky" for the first time on the field. Javis enjoys playing fun cadences, learning the funky, and drum battles. His only regret was not taking a bigger role in our band and faced the challenge of learning to march correctly and on beat. Javis has overcome this challenge and has played a bigger role within the band and the drumline. He leaves to the underclassmen "To have fun and give it your all, all of the time." After high school, Jarvis plans on attending college and playing football.
Tashay Johnson Tashay has been involved with the band program for 3 years. Tashay is a member of the Flag Corps., yet enjoys the sound of the drums. Tashay's most memorable moment was marching in the Canton Hall of Fame Parade. Tashay enjoys halftime and the away games. However, she didn't enjoy band camp. Tashay doesn't regret anything about being apart of the band and only wishes she could go back and change other people's attitude about band. After high school, Tashay plans on attending Mt. Vernon Nazarene University and major in Early Childhood Education. ~" I have had a lot of fun and hope to see the band grow and become even better." ~Tashay Johnson Olivia Porter Olivia, 18, has been involved with the band program for 8 years. Olivia plays the trombone and the baritone, however she prefers the trombone. Olivia's most memorable moment was her freshmen year, when the band performed the "06" senior show. "I've never seen the crowd go so crazy." Olivia enjoyed doing The Funky, and was pleased to play the songs that the crowd hasn't heard in a long time. Olivia regrets nothing about her band experience, but faced the challenges of switching from baritone to trombone and being an example to the underclassmen and her section. Olivia didn't enjoy the cold,rainy football games or having to march on the field when it was muddy. To the underclassmen Olivia leaves you with this: "To keep trying hard and enjoy every moment of band because it is really fun." After high school, Olivia plans on attending college and studying in Performing Arts. Kelly Scott Kelly,18, has been involved with the band program for 8 years. Kelly plays the clarinet and enjoys the sound of the drums. Kelly's favorite experiences is the feeling of excitement she felt performing at her first football game. Kelly also loved the roar of the crowd when the band did "The Funky". She enjoyed the practices and games because she always had fun. Kelly has no regrets about the band or being in band, however she faced the challenge to overcome the critisism and negative remarks from the community and did not enjoy having to perform halftime with the freezing weather at the games. To all of the underclassmen Kelly says " I Advise you to work hard, but also have a good time while you're doing so. Make these years worth while, and never give up on your dream. Always finish what you have started because it will be worth it in the end. I love you guys!" After High school, Kelly plans to attend college to major in Middle School Education and minor in Physical Training.
Kory Strong Kory, 18, has been involved with the band program for 8 years. Kory plays the clarinet and enjoys the saxophone. Kory's momst memorable moment was band camp, "It wasn't always the most fun thing, but I have made a lot of memories during that time." Kory favorite part of marching band was, bringing "The Funky" back. Kory says, "It was kind of forgotten about over the years, and i'm glad the class of 2009 got to experience it and help people remember it." Kory's only regret was not practicing more, and faced the challenge of doing a solo her sophomore year for Solo and Ensemble Contest and memorization. To the underclassmen Kory leaves you with, " Have fun, but be serious and ready to work when the time comes. Marching band is meant to be a fun thing, so enjoy it, make friends, and memories that will always stay with you." After high school, Kory plans to attending OSU-Mansfield. "Band has been a great and wonderful part of my life. there were times i was ready to quit because it just seemed too hard and not worth it, but i'm glad I stuck it out. I have make life-long friends and memories that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world!
